THE HISTORY OF KARA ZOR-EL AKA LINDA LEE DANVERS AKA SUPERGIRL

Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl made her debut with Action Comics Issue #252 (May 1959) and Issue #1 of her solo comic book was launched in 1972.  Through the years, her secret identity has ranged from Linda Lee,  Linda Lee Danvers, Claire Connors, Kara Kent and Linda Lang.  She originated from Krypton and is Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman's cousin.  Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman's parents are Jor-El and Lara-El.  Kara Zor-El aka Linda Lee Danvers aka Supergirl's parents are Zor-El and Allura-El.  Kara Zor-El died in the Crisis on Infinite Earths mini series in 1985.

From 1988 to 2002, a completely different female character---A shapshifting biological artificial protoplasmic matrix or simply named Matrix took over the Supergirl Identity.  Matrix was fused into the juvenile delinquent daughter of a police officer named Linda Danvers (Who was not the same person as Linda Lee Danvars, but a completely different person).  However the fusion was ripped apart in 2002 with Matrix going one way and Linda Danvers indirectly taking on the super-heroine identity of Fallen Angel published by DC Comics from 2003 to 2005 and published by IDW Publishing from 2005 to 2008.  Matrix is still around, but she isn't using the Supergirl identity anymore.  Supergirl was then taken over by a homeless street person named Mia Kent aka Cir-El claiming to be a time traveling backwards in time from the future to the present daughter of Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman.  This took place in Superman: The 10 Cent Adventure #1 in the year 2003.  It later turned out to be a brainwashed fake courtesy of sworn arch enemy who never dies Brainiac 13, dies and then she was erased from existence.  Additional Supergirl imposters have turned up over the years.  R'E'L aka Ariella Kent aka Supergirl yet another daughter of Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman who time traveled from the future---This one was half Caucasian and half African-American.  It appears that yet another daughter of Kal-El aka Clark Kent aka Superman has been killed and erased from existence, but nothing has been confirmed.  Laurel Gand aka Andromeda from the Legion of Super-Heroes comic book series.  All Star Comics #58 published on January/February 1976 introduced a completely different Supergirl imposter---A half Earthling from the lost continent of Atlantis cousin of Aquaman, daughter of Arion the Immortal and half alien from the planet Krypton named Karen Starr aka Power Girl.
The traditional Kara Zor-El aka Linda Lee Danvers aka Supergirl returned from the dead in the comic book Batman/Superman #8 published in 2004.  The traditional Kara Zor-El aka Linda Lee Danvers aka Supergirl has been in control of the Supergirl identity ever since.  Of course, that's how the continuity of the character is done in the comic books.  The biographical history of Kara Zor-El aka Linda Lee Danvers aka Supergirl takes a completely different path in the film and television version of the DC Comic Book Universe.
